7 INGREDIENTS FOR A HEALTHY VOICE
Here are some great tips for you to adopt into your daily life to help improve your singing
voice. We all know that singing takes lots of practice and bearing our emotions so I am
not going to use those as tips. You already know that; so here are 7 simple ingredients to
improving your physical instrument that if you follow, I almost guarantee that your voice
will thank youJ
1. WATER- Only water will lubricate the cords. Make a deal with yourself to drink
1 gallon every day and see if it makes a difference in how your voice feels!
2. SLEEP- If you don’t have energy, you won’t sound as good as you could. Try to
get the right amount of sleep for you. You’ll need to experiment to see what fits
you best. It could be 6, 7, 8 o5 9 hours sleep. If you are having trouble sleeping,
try some natural sleep inducers such as Chamomile, Kava Kava or Valerian Root.
3. WARM UP/COOL DOWN- ALWAYS warm up before
practice/rehearsal/performance and ALWAYS cool down before a
practice/rehearsal/performance. You need to get the blood flowing to the cords
before you sing in order to prevent vocal fatigue and you need to help the voice
return to normal afterwards to prevent vocal blowout. There are TONS of warm
up/cool down routines out there, so find a routine that works for you!
4. WORK OUT!!!-We ARE physical instruments, so find some type of exercise
that works for you. In my opinion, abdominal workouts and cardio are the most
important for stamina and breath support. I use an Urban Rebounder, do sit-ups
and I do a type of yoga called "Flowfit" by RMAX International. Doesn’t matter
what you do, just find something to keep you in shape and get you breathing a lot!
More oxygen means a healthier body and stronger lungs!
5. EAT GOOD FOOD- You are what you eat, so don’t become a pile of garbage.
White sugar, white salt and white flour will all leach vitamins out of your system.
Try going for organic raw foods such as fruits and veggies and nuts for protein. I
use a juicer and mixer every day. My favorite drink is juicing 3 apples, 4 carrots,
then blending them with a handful of organic spinach for my greens. It actually
tastes very sweet. That’s my breakfast. Then I’ll have a turkey sandwich in wheat
with a bowl of brown rice for lunch. For dinner??? Back to the juicing….but more
veggie orientedJ
6. SUPPLEMENT- I find that there are some supplements that if added to my daily
regimen, help to keep my voice in shape. I add zinc (the singer’s mineral) Vitamin
C (get some of this from juicing) calcium (get this from a water product additive
called XOOMA) and ionic silver. These all help to keep my pH balance more
alkaline. I also add a product called CELL FOOD to feed my cells;) I’m no doctor
so do yourself a favor; pick up a great vitamin/mineral/herb book and see what
you think you should add.
7. POSITIVITY- You’ve got to stay focussed and positive. Believe in your vocal
abilities and always visualize the best in yourself. Why are you singing???
Because it is fun and makes you happy right? Well, remember that every day.
You ARE a singer and you LOVE to sing, so have fun, believe and achieve!!!
I hope this all made sense. If you have ANY questions or would like to know where you
