TC-Helicon Interview with Stewart McClellan (click to listen)

Jimi Zimmardi was born in New York City and grew up in Lynbrook, NY not far from New York City. He attended the Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Division in New York City from age 15 to 17. He attended Berkeley College of Music in Boston in 1978-1979 and then transferred to New England Conservatory of Music and received his Bachelor of Music in Improvisational Studies as a double major in Voice and Saxophone Studies.

Jimi plays a wide variety of instruments and is a songwriter, record producer, studio musician, promoter and talent scout. His company JAZ productions, has existed since 1991 and has produced many shows in the New England area since then. Jimi expanded JAZ productions and added a talent company called East Coast Music Talent. It was designed to find the finest talent and develop singers using the voice techniques that Jimi teaches. The conglomerate company is designed to work with singers to develop the best tone and technique and present them as artists to major and indie record labels.

Jimi has commented: "I thought about all the stories I have heard regarding singers using belt technique that was harmful and I recalled my own voice loss problem. I began to think that every major or indie record label needs to sign an artist with a lead singer that could sing night after night after night. The long tours require vocal strength and stamina for the lead singer to withstand the long tour and not lose their voice. Waking up hoarse the next morning after a performance the night before is simply not an option. I saw how many performances were cancelled because of voice illness caused by improper voice technique. If I were a record company executive, I would want to sign an artist who can handle a long tour. Let's face it, cancelled shows cost the artist and record company money and it's also embarrassing to the artist.”

This also applies to speakers as well. It's incredible to hear about the number of cases of hoarseness and chronic laryngitis I've seen because an average person who worked 9 to 5 spoke all day and couldn't speak by 4:30 because they spoke with improper speaking technique. Statistically, many office workers lose their voices and revenue is lost in every way possible. All of this can be due to improper voice technique of people who use their voice all day for many hours."

Jimi educates singers and speakers through private instruction, Internet Webcam Private Lessons, 20 and 30 hour Private Workshops for people who travel globally to work with him, band and group coaching and he lectures globally and does group seminars as well in many major cities in the United States and abroad. “If you have problems with singing or speech, I can help you one way or another,” Jimi comments. People with voice issues have come from all over the world to work with Jimi Zimmardi because of his knowledge and expertise and his guarantee to solve every one of his client’s voice issues.

As a Talent Scout and Talent Agent, he is always on the lookout for talent on an ongoing basis. Jimi started East Coast Music Talent to develop many of his trained voice students and then promote them to major record labels." It's a win-win situation," Jimi comments." The label gets top notch and well-coached talent with great vocal technique that will last them their entire lives. More importantly, they won't suffer voice loss."

On a personal note, Jimi has not developed laryngitis since working under the supervision of McClosky voice technicians since 1995. Because of Jimi’s excellent reputation, he has numerous product endorsement deals with a wide variety of vocal products including TC Helicon and VAM Technologies. Jimi also serves as a Moderator for www.voicecouncil.com, an internet forum for singers to go to ask questions about anything related to singing. This website is sponsored by TC Helicon.

Jimi is proud of being able to help singers and speakers alike. Jimi has direct affiliations with many Ear, Nose and Throat doctors, ornolaryngolists and speech pathologists in some of the top hospitals in the world. Regardless of your voice problem or voice disorder, Jimi can work in tandem (if necessary) to get you back to good vocal health. Jimi is a CMVT (Certified McClosky Voice Technician) and is certified to teach the McClosky Voice Technique from the McClosky Institute of Voice. He also uses many of the philosophies of the Alexander Technique which focus on body mapping in Posture and Kinesthetic body alignment. Jimi is also a music consultant and commercial voiceover personality/actor and does commercials for radio and television, character voices as well as narration for films and documentaries and Books on Tape.

Jimi Zimmardi has dedicated his life to helping singers and speakers to help find their voice. "It was my vision to help everyone that I could to sing their best without hurting their voice. I had experienced voice loss and used improper technique even after a comprehensive music education on the college level. It took me many years to figure out the correct way to sing without hurting my voice. I am proud to be dedicating my life to help others who are in the same shoes that I was in years ago to resolve their singing and speech issues. I would never want them to experience what I went through.”

Jimi is accepting private students in his Boston and New York studios presently. Even if you’re from far away, Jimi can set up a private workshop for you over 3 to 4 days. These intensive private workshops guarantee to solve your issues in just a few days. Jimi can also teach you over the Internet as well with Webcam Lessons.
