COMPLETE VOCAL TECHNIQUE

Complete Vocal Technique has revolutionized singing technique and is being used worldwide by professional singers within all styles of music. Cathrine Sadolin’s ongoing and always updated research continues to inspire singers, singing teachers, actors, speech therapists, and doctors alike.

Everybody can learn to sing. Complete Vocal Technique will teach you how to overcome obstacles that might keep you from getting the most out of your voice. By using the 4 vocal modes, the 4 gears of the human voice, everybody can learn how to recognize and produce ALL sounds in a healthy manner. 90% of all vocal problems occur due to erroneous use of the vocal modes. Complete Vocal Technique is a fundamental system that will teach you how to control your voice in speech and singing.

Complete Vocal Technique offers quick, practical, and easily applicable solutions to specific voice problems. All sounds and all styles of music are treated equally. Complete Vocal Technique consciously avoids judgement on sound or taste. Users of the system are encouraged to freely combine elements to create their own sounds.

COMPLETE VOCAL INSTITUTE

The book & CD Complete Vocal Technique, first published in 1992, has created a great demand for further vocal technique education. In 2005 Complete Vocal Institute opened in Copenhagen to meet this demand. The institute now offers vocal education and courses on the highest professional level in many different countries. Complete Vocal Institute courses are open to all genres of music and singing, from classical to popular music to heavy metal. Since the opening in 2005 more than 500 singers from 18 different countries has attended a 4-month, 1-year or 3-year Course. At the moment about 200 singers are enrolled on a course.

4-month Intensive Course at Complete Vocal Academy:

A broad and varied course covering all aspects of singing; vocal technique, expression, performance, improvisation, phrasing, intonation, rhythm, awareness and training of authority, singing with a band, choir, working with other singers etc.

All participants will receive personal guidance in order to optimize each individual singers’ classes at the Academy. Musical preferences, wishes, and carreer plans will go into the planning of each singer’s schedule.

A semester at Complete Vocal Academy is 4 days of instruction per week for 4 months. You can take one semester, or several consecutive semesters, to optimize and improve your skills.

The course takes place in Copenhagen. CVI can help finding accommodations if you are interested in sharing an apartment with other course participants. New groups beginning twice a year.


1-year Singer Course:

For advanced singers who wish to improve and develop their artistic and technical skills. Instruction is focused around technique, artistic development, interpretation, and performance.

The course includes work with recognition and use of the vocal modes, auditive analysis, the solving of common technical vocal problems e.g. hoarseness, emergency aid, a musical and artistic approach to singing, expression, improvisation, phrasing, rhythm, performance and stage appearance, and music business related issues. The particpants’ exchanging of experience is also part of the course.

The 1-Year Singer Course is held as 6 seminars, 3 days each. Now available in Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, Reykjavik, and Utrecht (more cities to come). New groups beginning twice a year.

Intensive Evening Course:

The content of this course is equivalent to that of the 1-Year Singer Course, but at the intensive evening course classes are given one evening pr. week for 18 weeks. Each class will consist of technical and theoretical presentations combined with masterclasses. All singers will receive personal sessions at these weekly masterclasses. Everybody will listen to and learn from each other’s masterclass sessions. The course is available in Copenhagen.


3-year Singer/ Singing Teacher Diploma Course:

The 3-Year Singer/ Singing Teacher Diploma Course is aimed at advanced and professional singers who wish to qualify themselves further as singers, and to educate themselves as authorized Complete Vocal Technique Teachers. The course will enable the participants to work independently and responsibly as singing teachers. Upon completing the course, the participants will have reached the highest professional skill level in singing and as singing teachers.

The 3-Year Diploma Course offers highest level vocal education, theoretical knowledge about the voice, about singing, and the ability to pass this knowledge on. Also, practice in recognizing different techniques and vocal technical problems, practice in using and teaching vocal technique, supervised practice in teaching, theory of education, and the acquisition of teaching related skills will be part of the course. An authorized CVT-teacher must be able to demonstrate all sounds, and to teach other singers in the use of all sounds.

The course is held as 6 seminars pr. year. Each seminar is 4 days, Thursday-Sunday from 10-17 hrs, or Monday-Thursday 10-17 hrs.

Introductory courses, masterclasses, and other courses:

A variety of shorter courses are offered in many countries. First and foremost, all courses aim at solving the participating singers’ vocal problems. Special concerns that may be addressed: achieving the same volume in the high as well as the low parts of the voice, being able to reach higher or lower notes, problems with hoarseness etc. Subjects covered may include: the anatomy and correct use of the voice, the four vocal modes (Neutral, Curbing, Overdrive, Belting), sound color, prevention of damage, emergency aid, the healthy production effects (i.e. distortion, growl, screams, vocal breaks, adding air to the voice, vibrato, ornamentation technique), improvisation, phrasing, interpretation, and performance. A technical and theoretical approach is the starting point, but the courses always focus on the practical use of the voice.

1-day Introductory Courses and Masterclasses:

These days offers an introduction to Complete Vocal Technique. Participating singers can also use these courses to audition for admission to one of the longer courses offered by CVI.

5-day Summer Course:

The goal is for the acquired techniques and effects to be usable immediately after this intensive course. The course will take the individual singer’s technical and artistic vocal abilities as a starting point.
