app review: SongWriter HD Lite
What it Does:
The Bottom Line:
You can easily keep track of your songs by adding them to categories such as 'work in progress' and 'completed'. It also helps you arrange the different sections of your song.
There are some good tools such as 'Chord Picker', which suggests common chords to go with the key you have set for the song. There is also a rhyming dictionary - the results were not always as good as with other similar dictionaries.
There is a useful backup function for your songs via Dropbox, so you don't have to worry about losing your work even if you lose your device. You can also add a password to the App.
Reviews are generally positive - everything ran smoothly when I tested the App; negative reviews could relate to previous versions.
When testing the App I was impressed by how well thought out it was and felt that it could be a much better way of writing a song on a tablet/phone than using the default word processor found on the device. The record function is particularly useful, and you can record multiple takes of ideas as well as different recordings for individual sections on the songs. Once you have a completed song, the App also allows you to share it with your friends via email as a PDF or as a ‘Songwriter’ file if they use the same App.
