Vocal Coach comments from Kathy Alexander
What a great sound you have! You accompanied yourself well on guitar and made it seem effortless. Your tone gives this performance intimacy and draws in the listener. I like how you bring out different colors in your voice to bring out certain phrases and emotions. I would prefer the harmony vocals to be turned down just a teeny tiny bit. It seems like you are glancing at a chord sheet or something off to the side of the camera. I’d like to see you place that chord sheet down below the camera so glancing at it will look more natural – like your are thinking or glancing at your guitar. This would be less disruptive to the connection we feel when you make eye contact with the camera.
Megan Collins's bio
My name is Megan Collins and I am an 18-year-old, self-taught singer/songwriter from Co. Cork, Ireland. I Currently live in Fleet, Hampshire and I am on a gap year to pursue a music career.
Having posted covers and originals since I was just 15 years old, I have gained over 7K subscribers and totted up over 400,000 video views in total from audiences around the world. I want to inspire people and let them know that they can just be themselves to get to where they want to be. They don’t need fancy contacts or top-notch equipment. All they need is love, support, trust worthy friends, a hunger for determination and a whole lot of patience.
My work has gotten the attention and admiration from artists like Nina Nesbitt, Kodaline, Hozier, Orla Gartland and Mike Dignam. In 2013, I won a competition to open up for Nina Nesbitt in London’s Islington Assembly Hall and I am currently in the process of co-writing a track with her, also.
My music genre is more along the lines of folk/country with a hint of pop and a personal style of mine which I’m not quite sure how to explain!
I have been told that with my quirky lyrics and distinguished ear for a catchy hook, my music is what makes my songs instantly recognisable and more authentic to any other artist anyone has ever heard before.
My debut single, optimistically titled ‘We Always Find A Way’ is currently streaming on my YouTube channel since December 25th and is soon to be released on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon in early, 2015. Dates on an EP release are still yet to be confirmed but we are hoping March, 2015.
This singer was an entrant in our competition which ended on January 15th 2016.
The overall winner received:
