Vocal Coach comments from Kathy Alexander
Rowena, this sure seems like a great song for you. You owned your performance as if you had written the song yourself. It was also professional, polished and I enjoyed your vocal sound. I like how you came up with a guitar part that preserved some aspects of the original version, but also made it something new. At some point in the song, I wanted to hear your voice get bigger and more intense, like a well-hidden emotion breaking through just for a moment. This song is the kind that builds intensity without huge dynamic contrast, but try exploring a wider dynamic range with your voice even so. Take time to work on your vocal sound without the guitar, always aiming for openness and effortlessness in the throat – the biggest sounds can feel like the easiest ones when the voice is working efficiently.
