Diane Pettipas – Reflection original song

Vocal Coach Comments:
It’s nice that this is an original song recorded at a live gig. This style certainly works for you and you have a strong tone with real potential. However, you need to ‘sell’ the song more vocally and visually. It’s a little bit flat in pitch quite a lot of the time, but you could easily rectify this by putting in much more energy into your performance. It’s too static and you’ve also got your right arm across your stomach a lot of the time. This is what I call a “closed gate” gesture and says to your audience “Don’t look at me”. Please open that “gate” and let the audience in

Diane’s Bio
This is an original song my husband and I wrote. I wrote the lyrics, he wrote the music (we make a good team that way!) There were a few flubs here and there, but live is what it is!

Thank you so much for your kind words and constructive criticisms. Through recorded performances and practices I too have noticed I have a tendency to go flat. You’ll be pleased to know I have recently begun a new vocal training regimen to build proper placement, strength and tone balance so I don’t keep dropping things! Reviewing these videos also caused an epiphany moment – I have confidence issues (duh!). These effect not only my visual performance, but my vocal performance as well (another reason I come up flat is because I resist opening up). SO after my epiphany was this conversation with myself “Listen stupid – if you’re gonna do this – DO IT. Stop holding back and stop being afraid because you are only contributing to your own failure…. sh*t or get off the pot!” to which I replied to myself “I know.. you’re right”. So I’ve been working on better stage presence and being more extroverted and animated. I look forward to reposting in a couple months after my “bootcamp” with gates wide open!
