In our band situation, our guitar player is on the opposite side of the stage from me. I play Bass. In order to get the harmonies from his guitar, i would have to run a long cable from his guitar (20ft min) hooked into the guitar input of the VL2, then run another long cable back into his pedal board. He had a slight problem with this due to his concern of signal loss, etc.

Seeing how he plays a clean rhythm 99% of the time, I decided to try this:
He mics his amp, and it goes into a channel on the board.
On the mixer, I routed his signal to the Mains, as well as an open subgroup (We use the Presonus Studio Live 16.4.2)
Out of the subgroup, I connect the cable to the Guitar input of the VL2. I then put a dummy 1/4 plug into the Guitar output since I do not want to process any guitar through the VL2.

When we tested this before a gig, it worked very well. The true test came when i tried this at a gig. Stage noise, etc. was a concern.

After 3 gigs with this scenario, I must say ... It is working flawlessly. The harmonies are right on 100% of the time.

Just thought I'd share this weird wiring setup with you all.

All the best,
Peter

My new VL2 is hooked up temporarily and I thought I would give it a whirl. I played around with the setup a little and decided I wanted to try controlling the harmonies with the keyboard. No I admit I haven't really jumped into the manual, as I was using my experience with my Voice Prism Plus to guide me along.

I connected my keyboard MIDI out to the VL2 MIDI in and turned USB off. I get the MIDI indicator on the display and NP to pop up when I sing (ahem, if that's what you can call it..)

The issue is if I stop playing MIDI notes on the keyboard, shouldn't the harmonies stop as well.If play no notes and "sing", I still get whatever harmony preset I am currently on and not just my voice. I suppose I expected that the harmonies would only appear if MIDI data was present to control them.

Please educate me on this as I must be missing something...

Thanks

I knew when I was off, but couldn't hit right notes anyway.

Now, after that amount of time I finally managed to improve my singing and I am able to sing a song almost perfectly when I hear vocals well or when there's an instrument that plays the vocal part. I just can sing in key if I hear the notes I need to sing.

The problem begins when I want to sing to a chord. Let's say someone plays a chord on a piano and there is no instrument playing the vocal part. How am I supposed to know which note I should hit out of those that the chord consists of? I am really lost then, if you are able to, please help me, it's so important.

Thank you very much, cheers!

I think the VL2 would be more versatile in that is mobile.

I can put it on the floor under the desk, but it would compete with other pedals for space and be a tad more difficult to tweak.

Hi everyone,
I own a vocal floor pedal with a bad mic-preamp (not by TC-Helicon, obviously!) that ruins my voice in live concerts if I use it in series between microphone and mixer, and I can't use it in a parallel loop on the mixer because it doesn't allow this configuration (it would also be a problem to link it to the mixer from the stage).
So I'm going to buy a TC-Helicon vocal processor, still not sure if a VoiceLive Play, a VoiceWorks or a VoiceWorks Plus.

I found online a comparison chart among several old TC-Helicon products: Voicelive 1, Voiceworks, Quintet, VoicePrism etc, and it states that mic-preamps of these products are all based on the same amplifier (Burr Brown INA 163).
This chart has the TC-Helicon brand and graphic style, so I presume it was released by your company.

Since I'll need to plug the processor in series between microphone and mixer (as these products are intended to) I'd really appreciate to know this kind of technical information about preamps of the current models.
If you can't give the exact amplifier models, could you at least tell me if VoiceLive Play shares the same mic-preamp of VoiceWorks plus and/or VoiceLive 2?

Thanks, and thank you for this very useful forum!
