Michelle Montezeri – “Cooler Than Me” – Mike Posner COVER

Bio: Hello! My name is Michelle Montezeri and I am 17 years old. Singing has always been my passion ever since I was a little girl, and my dream is to be on American Idol. I just think that music can inspire people in a way that nothing else can.

Hi Michelle – I watch all of the Peer Review vids. You have a powerful voice. You also have a great feel for the music – it flows through you. I believe you can realize your dreams. Keep singing every opportunity you get, promote yourself, and work on areas of musicianship other than voice.

  • Hi Michelle,

YOU are quite a character! Ok, typically I'm not a fan of covers…unless the artist puts a different “swing” on the tune. I wasn't familiar with this song so I checked out Mike Posner's digs on YouTube. His is well produced and the vocals are perfectly auto tuned…and…I'm a huge fan of electronic music!!!

Well, you drew me in pretty quickly, and after hearing Mike's version…I hafta' say that I like yours more. You have a sultry yet funny way about you and you seem “Cooler” singing the line “Cooler Than Me” than Posner does. Hahaha…good job my friend!

Your voice is unique and I like the swanky smirk on your face when you sing it. Your attitude is believable in this song. Michelle I noticed that you struggle a little between playing piano and singing and when you blues your notes it gets kind of out of key but you blow by it quickly enough so as not to offend. Good rockin' ending…nice vibrato on the last tag. So, I think if you record the piano and then sing to it, you'll find your place in the song a bit more.

All I can say is that with a voice like that and good looks to boot, you're in the running for becoming a creative force with your music. I encourage you to reach out into your own musical community and find a producer or a couple of songwriters that will sit with you, record, and help you realize your vision. Because you can play, sing uniquely, and have a strong visual…you can lead your direction while picking up some great tricks from seasoned players. Just don't let them talk you into being too old :)

    Namaste,

    Brian
