He explores and exploits the force of the voice like few others.
A few years ago his Star Wars Tribute went viral (“John Williams is the Man”), with over 17 million hits in its many forms.
Since then, Mister Tim has taken his all-vocal rock band THROAT to new heights, released popular new vids, an EP, and toured with his solo live-looping act.
But he is also an educator, devoted to teaching voice and contemporary a cappella singing across the United States.
An unforgettable vocal performance you witnessed
“Weird” Al Yankovic live in concert.
What made it so?
He blasted through 30+ songs, parodies and originals in a HUGE variety of styles, and was energetic, engaged, and entertaining from start to finish (and his band was amazing, too)
One way a singer can find their unique voice?
Finding your unique voice is a tricky blend of accepting knowledgeable input, staying true to your personal inner vision, and working out the kinks through copious amounts of practice and performing.
Best advice you’ve heard on dealing with nerves
“If ye are prepared ye shall not fear.”
Is “X-factor” a bad word?
It’s a great word! It rhymes with ‘neck tractor’
Is there anything all vocal coaches agree upon?
If an alien landed in front of you and asked you to define singing – what would you say?
“I cannot define singing, rather you will now take me to your home planet where I will sing for your Queen.”*
*please provide two bottles of water on stage and a meat and veggie tray in the green room (Earth meats only).
Quickest way to hurt your voice
Spend a night at a loud party
Best way to a healthy voice
Eat real food and sleep real sleep
Best advice about tech you ever received?
What should a vocalist know about tech beyond their mic?
As much as possible.
Did you have a career setback that turned out not to be a setback?
Dozens. Countless. Constantly. Shows that don’t got the way I expect. Contacts I thought would be helpful suddenly becoming useless. “Brilliant” songs I’m writing turning out to be mediocre. The path to success is paved with failures: you learn, you grow, you move forward and get stronger.
Bad thing to say to your backing band
You don’t sound as good as last week’s band
Good thing to say to your backing band
THANK YOU for making me sound so good!
Most important thing to know about singing in the studio
The only thing that matters is getting it right
Quote about singing that inspires you
