At A Glance: Sennheiser’s e 835 FX is a cardioid dynamic stage microphone with the added bonus of TC-Helicon’s patented Mic Control. This enables the user to control functions on TC-Helicon’s vocal processors and multi-effects directly from the mic. The microphone is made in Germany and features a rugged metal housing and hum compensating coil. Its cardioid pick-up pattern offers good ambient noise and feedback rejection to enable greater signal levels to be delivered before feedback. Its proximity effect and frequency response has been optimized for close vocal work.

High Notes: The e 835 fx has a powerful low mid-range sound with a presence boost for improved projection on stage. It is a comfortable weight to carry in your hand while performing and it comes with a stand mount and carry case. Its neodymium transducer magnet produces strong output levels and the transducer can handle extremely high sound pressure levels in excess of 150 dB – so you won’t have to worry about singing too loudly!

Off Pitch: Compared to higher-end microphones, the e835fx doesn’t have quite as refined a sound as some – however for the price there is little to fault with the mic.

Video Review:

VoiceCouncil Reviewer Says: If you are looking for a mic with Mic Control, the main competition will come from TC-Helicon’s own MP75 microphone. This features a supercardioid pickup pattern and has a different sonic character to the e835 fx, which you may find suits your voice better. Depending on your TC-Helicon device, the Mic Control switch on both the Sennheiser e835 fx and TC-Helicon MP75 can be assigned to different functions. Below is an overview of what can be controlled with the microphones:

VoiceLive® Touch: controls looping, single or multiple effects on/off, Talk and Favorite selection.
VoiceLive Touch 2 : toggles Hit (multiple FX on/off), tap tempo, Talk, looping, Favorites and Harmony Hold.
VoiceLive Rack : sets Bypass, individual effect on/off, tap tempo, Harmony Hold.
VoiceLive 2: remote control of the single button looper or any Shortcut in VoiceLive 2.
VoiceLive Play: HIT, presets, looping, bypass
VoiceLive Play GTX: HIT, presets, looping, bypass
Mic Mechanic: turn effects on and off.
VoiceTone Harmony-G XT: turn your harmonies on and off for the verse or chorus.
VoiceTone Create XT: bypass the effects when it’s time to talk to the audience.
VoiceTone Synth: add the HardTune or Vocoding effect on single words or phrases with ease.
VoiceTone Singles: chain the pedals together and set up Mic Control to turn HardTune and Doubling on and off – leaving your reverb and tone settings unchanged for example.

Hi,I would like to know if the e835 fx work with other brands like alesis

  • Hi. No, the “mic control” feature was designed for TC-Helicon products and I’m not aware of any other manufacturers who have designed their units to be compatible with it yet.

But the mic itself will work with any system – as a straight mic without the effects control.
