Sarah Bella recommends an experiment to move your songwriting forward.
When your notepad is blank, and you just can’t seem to fill it, try to role play.
Think of an artist you are inspired by and try to write a song that the artist would sing.
It may help to steer you in a new direction.
Picture that artist singing the song and let that inspire the lyrics you write.
Be mindful not to copy a song, but to be influenced by the work of an artist.
If you are in the mood to experiment, pick an artist that is in a genre of music a little different to the one you are used to writing in.
This is a great exercise also for those who are not performing the songs themselves but are attempting to pitch songs to established artists.
Who will influence you today?
