Luca Tarqua has collaborated with the Grammy award winning producers of Justin Bieber and Rihanna, was a finalist in DGST, the X Factor of Switzerland, and performed at Zurich Festival.
He talks to Voice Council about how his social media skills are gaining him fans and industry experience.
What drew you into the world of YouTube?
YouTube is the world’s largest video platform so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to post my singing videos in order to network and reach a wider audience. I am aiming to share my voice with the world, gain more fans and ultimately, make people happy when they hear my songs.
Do you have a tip for performing in the ‘YouTube’ venue?
Be whoever you are off camera, on camera. Stay natural, relaxed and confident. Wear clothes you feel comfortable in and don’t forget to smile!
What do you think are the keys to your success?
Consistency and determination. Also, the ability to create your own ‘fan club’ by posting regular content that is both entertaining and professional.
How do you best connect to your fans?
Instagram and YouTube are my main platforms. I read and answer as many comments as possible. I have recently found that live streaming is a very constructive way of connecting with others.
Most important lesson you have learned about social media
Again, be consistent with your posting, but be patient and allow your presence to grow. And most of all, stay professional at all times!
What have you learned from collaborating with other performers and producers?
I’ve learned that everyone has their own style and everyone tries to create their own world where they want to live out their dreams.
How do you look after your voice?
I always drink lots of water and I enjoy lemon, ginger and honey tea.
Favourite vocal gear
I am really getting into TC-Helicon’s gear. It provides great variations which are exactly suited to my voice.
Strangest gig you have ever done
I once performed ‘Amazing Grace’ with a group of bagpipe players. But, unfortunately the bagpipes were so loud I could hardly hear myself! It was fun anyhow.
