The Latest Gear For Vocalists: Winter NAMM 2015 – Part 2

From mics to PAs – here’s a quick overview of products that will soon be hitting the shops.

  • 1. TC-Helicon Mic Ditto Looper

    TC-Helicon Have announced a new product to their line-up of vocal effect pedals. The Ditto Mic Looper is a live looper pedal that lets you go from idea to performance in an instant and build layered tracks with ease. One knob, two buttons – it couldn’t be simpler! With its superior audio quality, unlimited overdubs and Undo/Redo, the Ditto Mic Looper is the essential choice for looping vocals and mic’ed instruments. It has an easy setup with automatic mic input gain, and onboard mic preamp with phantom power & Mic Control (which gives you an additional loop control button if you use a mic that supports the feature).

  • 2. Shure Motiv Microphones

    Shure have introduced their new MOTIV range; a new plug-and-play microphone line suited for individuals looking to capture high-quality audio for vocal/acoustic recording, podcasts, YouTube videos, field recording, and more. The easy to use MOTIV products include four new Apple MFi (made for iPhone, iPod, iPad) Certified devices, including three condenser microphones and a sleek digital audio interface that can connect directly to any iOS device without additional adapters or connection kits. The MOTIV line features the MOTIV MV5 Digital Condenser Microphone, MOTIV MV88 iOS Digital Stereo Condenser Microphone, MOTIV MV51 Digital Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone, MOTIV MVi Digital Audio Interface, and the Company’s newest iOS app, ShurePlus MOTIV Mobile Recording App.

  • 3. Mackie FreePlay Personal PA

    Mackie have announced a portable, battery-powerable PA that delivers powerful, full-range sound anytime, anywhere. The FreePlay Personal PA features Bluetooth music streaming, a full-featured 4-channel digital mixer and a powerful control app for iPhone and iPod touch. It is designed as an all-in-one, full-range stereo PA, FreePlay features a high-output 8″ woofer for unmatched bass response. FreePlay allows users to connect microphones, line or instrument level sources and features an easy-to-use 4-channel digital mixer to control levels, EQ and more. A first in the portable PA category, FreePlay offers music streaming from any smartphone, tablet or other Bluetooth capable device.

  • 4. Alesis Core 1

    Alesis have announced the new CORE Series of 24-bit USB Audio Interfaces. The CORE Series interfaces offer a full range of recording solutions including XLR+1/4″ combo inputs, Mic/Line or Guitar level switching, headphone outputs with level controls for efficient monitoring, and each model ships with a Cubase 7 LE. CORE 1, a single input/dual output inline interface, is ideal for on-the-go recording or the budget-conscious producer. CORE 2 offers both audio and MIDI connections for full studio integration. Topping out the series is the CORE 8, an eight-channel rack mount interface suited for live or studio applications.

  • 5.IK iRig Mic Studio

    Music hardware and software developer IK Multimedia today announced the iRig Mic Studio – an ultra-portable large-diaphragm digital condenser microphone for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC and Android. The iRig Mic Studio packs a one-inch diameter condenser capsule into an ultra-compact enclosure that can be used to make professional recordings anywhere. The new cross-platform microphone features a large, one-inch diameter back electret condenser capsule, a 24-bit audiophile-grade A/D converter (with 44.1/48 kHz sample rate), and a built-in low-noise high-definition preamp. These, combined with its 133dB SPL rating, allow for optimal audio capture of any source at any sound pressure level.

  • 6. MXL Restyled Heritage Range

    MXL is restyling their finest microphones in a collection called Heritage Edition. The series is comprised of MXL’s most popular and most praised microphones – MXL Genesis, Genesis FET, V67, R144 and V69MEDT – with new sophisticated styling designed for professional recording studios.

  • 7. Focusrite iTrack Lightning

    Focusrite has relaunched iTrack Solo and iTrack Studio with updated with Lightning compatibility. iTrack Solo is a 2-in, 2-out iPad, Mac, and PC audio interface featuring a genuine Focusrite mic preamp. With a dynamic range of over 105dB and unique gain halos that show you when your recording signal is at the right level, it is billed as the best way to record your sound, whatever your platform.   • 8. Heritage Audio 2264JR

    For musicians craving the classic Neve sound heard on many famous recordings, Heritage Audio have announced the 2264JR is a 2 slot 500 series Compressor and Microphone Preamplifier.Its compression features and, key components and schematics are the same found on the Heritage Audio classic 2264E compressor and a fully featured 60dB 1073 mic preamplifier has been implemented when compression is not needed. Its audio path is fully discrete Class A, 2n3055 driven, transformer balanced. All controls are stepped on rotary switches for easy recall and high precision. A high pass filter has been added on the sidechain to avoid bass signals to ride the compression.
