Kim Chandler is a top session singer – and one of the busiest!
She’s just backed Susan Boyle on “Paul O’Grady Show” (ITV), and has directed a 93-voice choir for a new charity single at Abbey Road Studios.
That’s not all: you’ll hear her voice as the sole backing vocalist on a track featuring Brian May, Slash, Sir David Attenborough and Kerry Ellis.
Kim is on the coaching team for BBC’s The Voice- UK’s open auditions and manages a busy private studio – and she’s our Vocal Coach in Residence this month!
Best coaching experience in the past year?
Helping a singer who was tying herself up in knots trying to emulate other singers to love & embrace her own voice – the difference was astounding & life changing for her (and me).

Singing is making music with your voice and is a unique combination of music & lyric that belongs to humans alone…

Sensible lifestyle choices, regular physical & vocal exercise and a positive emotional state…

No, it certainly describes what the winner of this year’s series in the UK had in abundance…
Best advice about tech you ever received?
Get the best mic for your voice. This goes for studio mics as well as live mics. The difference is incredible!

Good thing to say to your backing band?
Let’s have a great gig!
Most important thing to know about singing in the studio?
It’s much more exposing than singing live – you hear every detail and what you record is down for posterity…
One way a singer can find their unique voice?
By all means learn from other singers, we all do, but celebrate & develop your own best vocal attributes…
